Here are the assignments that have been given so far this semester.  The dates refer to the date the assignment was due.

 

January 8

  • Read and outline pages 133 -135.  While you are reading, think about the following.
    • What was manifest destiny, and why did Americans believe in it?  What views are reflected in the quote by John L. O'Sullivan?
    • What were some of the reasons Americans moved west?  Would you have moved west?
    • What effect did westward migration have on the Native Americans?
    • What was life like on trails west?  What were some differences between the various trails?
    • What was the difference between the way border disputes were settled in the north and in the south? (This will become clearer after the next reading.)

    • Test will consist of six short answer questions on the Civil War and thirty fill in the blank questions on Reconstruction.
      • Short Answer-50%
        • You will have to answer five of the six questions.
        • One question on the Battle of Gettysburg will be mandatory.
          • You should be able to describe the three day battle in great detail.
